About the position

The Research Lab Assistant in the Department of Genetics & Biochemistry at Clemson University will support microbiological research focused on polymicrobial biofilms and interkingdom interactions. The role involves assisting in experimental design, performing microbiological assays, and analyzing data under the guidance of senior lab members, particularly investigating interactions between Aspergillus fumigatus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa using advanced techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing and microscopy.

Responsibilities

  • Document data, calibrate equipment, and adhere to operating procedures to ensure quality control in the research lab.
  • Collaborate with a PhD student to prepare and organize molecular biology datasets, including cleaning and normalizing data for analysis.
  • Perform routine culturing, maintenance, and storage of bacterial and fungal strains, and conduct microbiological assays.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and work experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline may substitute for the required work experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Biology, Microbiology or related fields
  • 1+ years in a microbiology laboratory
