About the position

The Research Lab/BioBank Lab Technician position at DFW NEXT Oncology involves handling and processing biological samples for clinical trials and research purposes. The role requires meticulous data entry, sample management, and collaboration with clinical staff to ensure accurate and efficient operations within the lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Request and receive tissue samples from outside pathology facilities.
  • Send tissue blocks to the vendor for slide cutting and ship slides to the study lab.
  • Label, receive, and process samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for clinical trials according to specific protocol guidelines.
  • Log samples into and out of the department accurately.
  • Record all data in specified forms per clinical trial, both paper and electronic.
  • Enter data into a departmental database.
  • Recognize discrepancies in sample data and coordinate with nursing staff to correct them.
  • Organize and store all reagents according to safety instructions.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure a clean and orderly lab environment.
  • Restock lab consumables at the end of the day.
  • Manage inventory of clinical trial supplies and kits, as well as departmental supplies.
  • Perform administrative functions including filing, scanning, copying, and emailing work documents.
  • Ship or store samples as per protocol before the end of the shift.
  • Prepare all collection tubes and aliquots for the next day's clinic accurately.
  • Collect, label, and record biological specimens from human tissues.
  • Identify and obtain necessary consent from patients at various clinics.
  • Deliver and collect tissue kits from various hospitals and clinics.
  • Use molecular biology techniques with human tissues to establish cancer tumor models.
  • Prepare cell culture media and maintain cancer cell lines, including spheroid cultures.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining supply inventories.
  • Maintain written documentation and subsequent data entry into various databases.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in the Sciences.
  • 1 year of prior lab and sample processing and shipping experience.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Basic knowledge of computers with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • IATA Dangerous Goods handling certification (will train after hire).
