About the position

The Research Lab Technician I position at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology involves providing expertise in histochemistry and microscopy to support research on brain aging and Alzheimer's disease. The role includes working with a team to conduct experiments, analyze tissue samples, and assist with lab maintenance and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general laboratory assistance to support research activities.
  • Collect post-mortem mouse tissues and maintain records of tissues in stock.
  • Analyze tissue samples using techniques such as qPCR, ELISA, Western blots, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Conduct data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assist in training undergraduate students and technicians in the lab.
  • Help with lab maintenance and ensure lab safety.

Requirements

  • BS education in life science or related fields (preferred).
  • Experience working with laboratory mice or rats.
  • Basic laboratory skills in biochemistry and molecular experiments.
  • Ability to conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols.
  • Experience performing at least two of the following techniques: Western blotting, RNA reverse transcription, quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and animal behaviors.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a lab setting and performing bench work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in brain research.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.
  • Knowledge of computer analysis techniques.
