About the position
The Research Lab Technician I position at the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology involves providing expertise in histochemistry and microscopy to support research on brain aging and Alzheimer's disease. The role includes working with a team to conduct experiments, analyze tissue samples, and assist with lab maintenance and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
- Provide general laboratory assistance to support research activities.
- Collect post-mortem mouse tissues and maintain records of tissues in stock.
- Analyze tissue samples using techniques such as qPCR, ELISA, Western blots, and immunohistochemistry.
- Conduct data analysis and interpretation.
- Assist in training undergraduate students and technicians in the lab.
- Help with lab maintenance and ensure lab safety.
Requirements
- BS education in life science or related fields (preferred).
- Experience working with laboratory mice or rats.
- Basic laboratory skills in biochemistry and molecular experiments.
- Ability to conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols.
- Experience performing at least two of the following techniques: Western blotting, RNA reverse transcription, quantitative PCR, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, and animal behaviors.
- At least 1 year of experience working in a lab setting and performing bench work.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in brain research.
- Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.
- Knowledge of computer analysis techniques.
