About the position

The Research Lab Technician II in Cardiology is responsible for performing a variety of moderately complex physical, chemical, and biological tests under the supervision of higher-level technicians or principal investigators. This role involves providing guidance to lab staff and ensuring adherence to established protocols while conducting experiments and analyses in a research laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct standardized chemical, physical, and biological tests on experimental and clinical materials.
• Perform micro-analysis, lipid analysis, enzyme studies, and chromatographic studies on various tissues, secretions, and excretions.
• Set up equipment and organize materials for scheduled tests and experiments.
• Select appropriate experimental formats and prepare charts, graphs, and reports from research data.
• Isolate and identify microorganisms using established laboratory techniques.
• Train and demonstrate technical procedures to graduate and medical students, as well as other technical personnel.
• Take blood samples and other specimens as required by research protocols.
• Inoculate research animals with pathogens and perform minor animal surgeries.
• Collect and prepare tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis, including staining for microscopic examinations.
• Review scientific literature for information relevant to research projects.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Zoology, or a related science, or a high school diploma with four years of related clinical/research experience.
• Ability to listen and communicate effectively.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology for interaction with medical staff.
• Familiarity with medical equipment and instruments.
• Understanding of common safety hazards and universal precautions.
