About the position
The Research Laboratory Technician position at the University of Miami is a part-time role focused on supporting scientists in their experiments. The technician will be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, recording research data, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. This role is essential for the smooth operation of laboratory activities and contributes to the overall research efforts of the department.
Responsibilities
- Cleans, sanitizes, maintains, and operates laboratory equipment.
- Keeps records of research data and assists in analyzing it.
- Maintains inventory of laboratory equipment and supplies and places orders in a timely fashion.
- Proofreads and assists in the writing of manuscripts, grant proposals, and lab protocols.
- Prepares reports of experiment results.
- Performs research by completing simple experiments or steps in more complicated studies.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Performs PCR genotyping for animals.
- Performs basic data analyses of cell and animal experiments.
- Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus as needed.
- Prepares and maintains culture media reagents.
- Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training groups as requested.
- Records research procedures and results.
- Maintains records, codes data for input for electronic data processing inputs and retrieves data electronically.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
