The Research Lead (Research Assistant) provides primary research support for faculty academic book development and high-impact publications in medical humanities, history of medicine, and in the areas of diagnostic excellence and equity. The role focuses on comprehensive research support and manuscript development while maintaining organized research documentation systems. Working 10 hours per week, duties include but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews across humanities, social sciences, and medical databases.
  • Support academic book manuscript preparation and revision.
  • Create and maintain research databases with annotated bibliographies.
  • Analyze historical and contemporary medical narratives.
  • Manage citation systems and documentation for manuscripts.

Requirements

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with an interest in science and health studies, literature, and/or medical history
  • Strong academic research and writing skills (writing sample required)
  • Experience with research tools, databases, and citation management software [i.e. Zotero and Endnote]
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Excellence in organization and attention to detail with proficiency in literature review methodologies
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior research assistant experience
  • Background in literature, history of medicine, or medical humanities
  • Experience with manuscript preparation and academic publishing
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods
  • Experience with systematic literature reviews
  • Knowledge of medical or healthcare contexts
  • Experience with digital research tools and databases
