About the position

The Research Technician I position at the Center of Mitochondrial and Epigenomic Medicine at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) involves maintaining the lab's mouse colony and providing technical support to the research team. The role requires a self-motivated individual with strong organizational and social skills to interact with various scientific staff. The technician will engage in molecular biology, cell biology, and genomics experiments, contributing to the understanding of metabolic regulation in health and disease.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the lab mouse colony through daily checks, breeding pairs, and genotyping.
  • Breed and allocate experimental mice for ongoing studies in the lab.
  • Perform routine tests and experiments under the direction of the principal investigator or supervisor.
  • Conduct research procedures on experimental samples as directed.
  • Record and check experiments/results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform calculations and maintain appropriate logs and lab notebooks.
  • Assist in the care of lab equipment and sterilize glassware.
  • Attend courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques.
  • Organize data and maintain lab notebooks in an organized manner.
  • Conduct literary searches as directed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Related classroom or laboratory experience or successful completion of a technical training program (e.g., Wistar, WPSI) Required
  • At least six (6) months of related classroom or laboratory experience or successful completion of a technical training program (e.g., Wistar, WPSI) Preferred
  • Basic understanding of lab procedures, protocols, and equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Solid critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid analytical skills.
  • Mouse and/or animal handling experience.
  • Basic molecular biology techniques.
