About the position

The Research Narrative Design Analyst at RAND's Communications and External Affairs department plays a crucial role in enhancing the presentation of complex policy research through effective visual and written communication. This position focuses on national security topics and involves collaborating with researchers to create compelling narratives and visuals that inform policymakers and the public. The analyst will utilize their graphic design expertise to elevate communications products, ensuring clarity and accessibility in conveying research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with researchers and RAND leaders to present complex policy research in clear and compelling formats.
  • Craft and refine policy research narratives and translate them into visual materials.
  • Analyze complex topics and develop visual communication tactics under tight deadlines.
  • Create and edit briefings, maps, charts, graphs, and informational graphics.
  • Ensure high-quality visuals are meshed with prose to support policy and decision making.
  • Contribute throughout the life cycle of research projects with communications analysis and asset creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design, fine art, English, communications, public policy, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 9 years of related experience in graphic design and visual communication.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusive design best practices and audience analysis skills.
  • Ability to break down complex concepts visually and incorporate data into designs.
