About the position

The Research Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) laboratory operations, supporting faculty and students in their research activities, and maintaining laboratory spaces. This role involves managing equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and providing logistical support for research and instructional needs within the CEE department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain all equipment in the machine shop and CEE laboratory spaces.
  • Provide technical and logistical support for undergraduate and graduate laboratory spaces.
  • Complete research and educational fabrication needs.
  • Manage laboratory planning, inventory control, and purchasing.
  • Ensure compliance with university and industry safety protocols in laboratory and machine shop settings.
  • Guide and support student and faculty research initiatives.
  • Train students in the safe operation of laboratory equipment.
  • Solve logistical challenges and think creatively to support research and instructional needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of general research experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Familiarity with various research fields, concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and accomplishing goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in machine shop operations including metal lathe and milling machine.
  • Knowledge of digital fabrication processes (e.g., CAD/CAM/CNC).
  • Experience in general trades such as machining, welding, or carpentry.
