About the position

The Research Operations Specialist at Intermountain Healthcare plays a crucial role in supporting a dedicated team of research enrollment specialists. This position is integral to the success of clinical research and various research studies conducted within the organization. The specialist is responsible for enrolling participants in research projects and assisting with a range of research-related duties that align with the objectives of the Investigator and the Research Department. This role involves educating, training, coaching, and problem-solving to ensure that team members possess the necessary skills and tools to perform their jobs effectively. In addition to participant enrollment, the Research Operations Specialist is tasked with the development of team and individual goals on an annual basis, reviewing these goals periodically with staff to ensure alignment and progress. The specialist also plays a key role in facilitating the enrollment of research participants through various methods, including in-person interactions, phone calls, mail-outs, and online platforms. A thorough understanding of research protocols is essential, as the specialist must ensure that all documentation is accurate and compliant with regulatory standards. This includes the collection, input, and maintenance of data in both Intermountain and external databases, while adhering to guidelines set forth by regulatory agencies such as the FDA, IRB, NIH, and NCI. The position also requires the specialist to act as a problem solver, utilizing available resources to address and resolve policy and procedural issues that may arise. Additionally, the specialist is responsible for editing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure they meet the criteria of ongoing studies. Overall, this role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of research operations within Intermountain Healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Enroll participants in research projects and assist with other research-related study duties.
  • Educate, train, coach, and problem-solve for team members.
  • Coordinate the development of team members' skills and ensure they have the proper tools and knowledge.
  • Assist with the development of team and individual goals on an annual basis and review these goals periodically with staff.
  • Facilitate the enrollment of research participants via in-person, phone calls, mail-outs, and the Internet.
  • Understand and follow research protocols, providing appropriate documentation.
  • Collect, input, and maintain data in Intermountain and external databases.
  • Ensure compliance with Code of Federal Regulations, Good Clinical Practice, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Act as a problem solver by utilizing available resources to resolve policy and procedural issues.
  • Edit and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to meet study criteria.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of research methodologies and processes.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex messages in an easily understandable manner.
  • Experience using basic computer programs including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience using research applications such as RedCap, Clinical Trial Management Systems, and IRB software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and attention to detail.
