About the position

The Research Pharmacy Technician position at Mayo Clinic involves providing technician and clerical support within the Research Support Service of Hospital Pharmacy Services. Responsibilities

  • Perform technician and clerical support activities associated with the coordination of the Research Support Service of Hospital Pharmacy Services.
  • Prepare doses (oral and IV) and maintain active and closed protocol files.
  • Complete protocol-based report forms and assist auditors and study coordinators.
  • Maintain inventory levels, order and receive new drug supplies, and package and mail study supplies.
  • Ensure correct drug accountability records and process computerized study drug charges and workload statistics.
  • Perform quality management functions and assist the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care.
  • Gather, label, and distribute medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Package, prepare, and safely compound medications, including hazardous substances.
  • Handle and distribute controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and assist with drug diversion surveillance.
  • Maintain accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
  • Communicate effectively using established systems and processes and assist with training new staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Two years pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Compounded sterile preparation (CSP) training preferred.
  • Personal computer skills including word processing, database, and spreadsheet development experience or ability to learn required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, timeliness, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English effectively.
  • Strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn technical tasks and follow written and verbal directions.
  • Ability to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Experience with office software applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse, or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in narcotic control, inventory management, or investigational/chemotherapy protocol record keeping.
