About the position

The Institute for Defense Analyses Center for Computing Sciences (IDA/CCS) is seeking exceptional researchers to tackle challenging computing problems that are crucial to national security. As an independent, applied research center sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA), IDA/CCS focuses on high-performance computing, computer vulnerability research, cryptography, signal processing, and advanced techniques for analyzing complex data sets. The center benefits from stable funding, fostering a vibrant research environment characterized by intellectual inquiry and minimal administrative burdens. IDA/CCS operates as a non-profit Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC), allowing it to assist the Department of Defense in ways that for-profit contractors cannot, ensuring that its work is in the public interest and free from organizational conflicts of interest. Candidates for the Research Physical Scientist position should possess a strong background in computer science, physical science, or engineering, with a proven track record of problem-solving. The research staff at IDA/CCS often collaborates on complex topics, necessitating both depth in a specific field and a broad understanding of computational issues and technology. Given the evolving nature of the problems addressed, IDA/CCS prioritizes self-motivation, a robust background, and inherent talent over specific areas of expertise. While a PhD is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement. The center offers a competitive salary, an excellent benefits package, and a flexible schedule that promotes work-life balance. All applicants must be U.S. citizens and able to meet security clearance requirements, specifically TS/SCI with polygraph.
