About the position

The Research Program Manager at Stony Brook University is responsible for overseeing the Clinical Research Core's daily operations, managing administrative and financial policies, and ensuring compliance with research protocols. This role involves supervising staff, facilitating study start-ups, and managing financial aspects of industry-funded clinical trials. The position requires a strong background in clinical research and supervisory experience, with a focus on developing and mentoring research staff.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Research Core (CRC).
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate all administrative and financial policies and procedures of the office.
  • Supervise CRC staff, providing specific work assignments and performing quality assurance on assigned work.
  • Train and mentor staff on research-related practices.
  • Facilitate educational research training for study coordinators.
  • Set fiscal goals annually for CRC and monitor financial aspects including billing and expenditures.
  • Develop and negotiate budgets for industry-funded clinical trials.
  • Manage the Clinical Conductor Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS).
  • Oversee regulatory aspects of studies, including IRB submissions and ClinicalTrials.gov entries.
  • Coordinate day-to-day study activities, including patient recruitment and consent.
  • Prepare necessary documents for research presentations and sponsor audits.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and three (3) years of full-time experience in clinical research with two (2) years working with sponsored clinical trials.
  • In lieu of a Master's degree, a Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) plus five (5) years of full-time experience in clinical research with two (2) years working with sponsored clinical trials may be considered.
  • Administrative and managerial experience working with research projects and clinical trials involving an external sponsor.
  • Supervisory experience including supervising research coordinators.
  • Experience working with research protocols and budget preparation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Four (4) or more years of full-time experience in clinical research involving sponsored clinical trials.
