About the position

The Research Programmer Analyst 3 position at the Immunology Center of Georgia is a full-time role focused on providing essential computing support to research faculty. This position is integral to advancing the research goals of the center, which aims to leverage the immune system to combat various diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing software and algorithms using The R Project for Statistical Computing, which will support a range of research projects. This includes creating analytical, statistical, and procedural functions for data processing, as well as developing applications, web portals, and user interfaces tailored to research needs. In addition to software development, the role involves creating and managing databases that support research initiatives. This encompasses the design of database schemas and objects, as well as local database administration. The candidate will also be tasked with developing application programming interfaces (APIs) that facilitate research projects, which includes building object models, web services, and comprehensive documentation. Furthermore, the position requires the development of computational and analytical models, engaging with fields such as computational biology, statistics, and neural networks. As a lead programmer, the individual will perform all related duties as assigned, ensuring that the research faculty's computing needs are met effectively. This role is crucial in supporting the center's mission to produce innovative treatments for diseases that significantly impact communities in Georgia and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Development of software and/or algorithms using The R Project for Statistical Computing in support of research projects.
  • Development of applications, web portals, and user interfaces in support of research projects.
  • Development of databases in support of research projects, including database schemas and administration.
  • Development of application programming interfaces in support of research projects, including object models and web services.
  • Development of computational/analytical models and theories in support of research projects, including computational biology and statistics.
  • Lead programmer responsibilities, performing all other related duties/tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university, OR
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of experience, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience or degrees in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, and/or Mathematics.
