About the position

The Research Programs and MRC Manager at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is responsible for overseeing the MRC fellowship program, the All Fellows curriculum, and programs for Scholars in Residence. This role involves acting as a liaison for these programs, coordinating initiatives across the institution, managing logistical operations, and planning for current and future departmental programming. The position emphasizes both fellowship program management and department management, requiring strong communication, program management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and oversee activities for MoMA's MRC fellowship program and All Fellows curriculum.
  • Act as a liaison for MRC programs and connect initiatives related to fellows and scholars across the institution.
  • Manage the MRC Fellows in conjunction with assigned curatorial department managers.
  • Maintain partnerships with graduate art history programs at various universities.
  • Plan and organize semiannual MRC Study Sessions and the Marron Lecture Series.
  • Facilitate the selection process for MRC Fellows and Scholars in Residence.
  • Coordinate the onboarding process for MRC Fellows and Scholars in Residence.
  • Organize the All Fellows program, including meetings and professional development training.
  • Solicit and manage feedback to refine MRC Fellowships and Scholars in Residence programs.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop innovative programs such as Idea Lab and Open Study Sessions.
  • Draft and coordinate reports on MRC activities for funders and stakeholders.
  • Manage the Research Programs department budget and financial sustainability.
  • Facilitate scheduling and meeting planning for the department and MRC participants.

Requirements

  • Master's degree, preferably in art history or a related field.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in museum or gallery administration or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of diplomacy, accountability, judgment, and discretion.
  • Strong program management skills.
  • Experience with internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Background in the history of modern art desirable.
  • Experience with developing and improving organizational processes and protocols.
  • Management and accounting skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of both macro and micro views of budget management.
  • Strong Excel skills.
