About the position

The University of Iowa is seeking two part-time (50%) or one full-time (100%) Research Project Coordinator(s) to support a research project led by Dr. Wen Liu, Associate Professor in the College of Nursing. This project focuses on evaluating a behavioral intervention aimed at improving mealtime care quality and individual outcomes for older adults with dementia and their professional caregivers. The selected candidates will be responsible for performing various research activities based on protocols developed by Dr. Liu. The working schedule will be flexible and determined in collaboration with Dr. Liu, with the position expected to start in September 2024 and continue until May 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The role may require some early morning, late evening, and weekend work to accommodate research activities involving study sites and participants. The position is specified term professional and scientific, allowing for hybrid work arrangements within Iowa, subject to compliance with the university's remote work policies. Candidates will need to complete a work arrangement form upon starting employment, which will be reviewed annually. Key responsibilities include compiling and modifying an online intervention module, managing recruitment and retention efforts, overseeing data collection and storage, maintaining supply management and REDCap systems, preparing reports, and submitting modifications to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Additionally, the coordinators will summarize data, develop tables and figures, contribute to manuscripts, maintain large public datasets, and oversee a team of research assistants, including hiring and training new staff, and facilitating team meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, modify, and evaluate an online intervention module based on developed protocols.
  • Manage recruitment and retention of study participants.
  • Oversee data collection, storage, and management.
  • Maintain supply management and REDCap systems.
  • Prepare reports and submit/modify IRB and Manual of Operations.
  • Summarize data, develop tables/figures, and contribute to manuscripts with support.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and propose modifications to research protocols.
  • Maintain large public datasets on caregiving and patient outcomes and engage in academic writing based on these datasets.
  • Oversee the research assistant team, including hiring/training new assistants and managing team communication.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Typically, 6 months or more of experience in delivering training/education to healthcare providers or coordinating educational/training programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a diverse population, including older adults.
  • Extensive proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet UI Fleet Service standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in long-term care or community care settings with individuals living with cognitive impairments.
  • Typically, 1 year or more of experience working on a sponsored research project, preferably related to health services or educational/training programs for healthcare providers.
  • Experience using related software (e.g., REDCap, Access) for recruitment, consent, tracking study procedures, and data management.
  • Academic writing skills and experience preparing, submitting, and/or managing federal grants and contracts.
  • Working knowledge of university policies, procedures, and regulations.
