About the position

The Research Project Manager at the Comprehensive Integrated Research Office (CIRO) of the University of Kansas Medical Center is responsible for managing complex research portfolios and providing administrative support to the institution's research enterprise. This role involves collaboration with faculty and sponsors to ensure effective management of extramural funds and the successful implementation of research projects. The primary goal is to support faculty by overseeing grant management and providing technical assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced professional and technical leadership in identifying funding opportunities for researchers.
  • Support the implementation of complex program projects and contracts in collaboration with faculty.
  • Serve as a liaison to sponsors, internal stakeholders, and community partners.
  • Facilitate strategic growth for major grant proposals.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews with project leaders to assess financial portfolios and ensure research objectives are met.
  • Contribute to the development of departmental plans for administrative and financial support of research projects.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards in financial reviews of contracts and agreements.
  • Oversee and evaluate the performance of direct reports, providing feedback and support for their development.
  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures and workflow processes for CIRO.
  • Support fiscal management of the department's research enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years in Project Management and 2 years in Grant Management.
  • Experience in design, implementation, or support of multi-site studies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree, Master of Public Health, or a degree in Research Administration.
  • Certifications such as CRA, CCRP, CCRC.
  • 5 years in Project Management in a large clinical unit within academia or research administration.
