About the position

The Research Project Manager at Southern Methodist University (SMU) will oversee research projects focused on AI-powered emotional intelligence and related technologies. This role involves leading a small team, conducting research, publishing findings, and securing funding for projects. The position is integral to the Hart Center for Engineering Leadership, emphasizing leadership development through innovative research methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research using AI/ML for leadership development.
• Design experiments and submit IRB applications as necessary.
• Collect data manually or automatically and design algorithms for data analytics.
• Co-author publications and prepare presentations and reports.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research activities.
• Identify funding opportunities and write proposals to secure over $200,000 per year.
• Lead one staff member coordinating leadership events and professional development activities.
• Assist with other related activities as assigned by the Executive Director.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree required.
• Minimum of two years of experience in research and AI/ML.
• Experience supervising scientific studies and working with industry professionals preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to devise solutions.
• Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
• Familiarity with statistical packages preferred.
