About the position

The Research Safety and Security Facilitator at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, plays a crucial role in supporting the Research Safety and Security Office. This position involves managing regulatory oversight, facilitating the review and approval processes for research submissions, and providing training and support to investigators and committee members. The facilitator ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and institutional policies while also identifying areas for workflow improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, registers, and pre-reviews new, amended, and continuing submissions for compliance with laws and guidelines.
  • Facilitates reviews by committee members and serves as a liaison between investigators and committees.
  • Coordinates and facilitates meeting logistics, including planning calendars and communicating with attendees.
  • Composes meeting minutes and manages documentation related to approvals.
  • Engages team members to develop and provide training for committee members and stakeholders.
  • Ensures timely review of submitted documents requiring approval and identifies areas for workflow improvement.
  • Serves as a resource for researchers, staff, and leadership regarding questions and compliance.
  • Assists in managing systems and processes, guiding change implementation, and reviewing active systems for improvements.
  • Stays updated on relevant regulations and assists in ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in health sciences, Education, Nursing, Information Systems/Business, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience.
