The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University is seeking a postdoctoral research scholar specializing in process modeling and optimization, spatial modeling, and environmental/agricultural data analysis. This position is funded through the Environmental Enhancement Grant (EEG) program in collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Justice (NC DOJ). The successful candidate will report directly to Dr. Mahmoud Sharara and will work closely with Drs. Dani Jones and Eric Edwards. The role is expected to commence as soon as August 2023, but no later than October 2023, and is anticipated to be funded through the summer of 2024, with potential for further extension. The primary responsibilities of the postdoctoral research scholar include conducting literature reviews and data syntheses to develop process models for technologies aimed at processing manures from various animal species, including swine, poultry, and cattle. These models will focus on capturing efficiency, emissions, and techno-economic performance (TEA) for individual processes and in cascade systems. Additionally, the scholar will be tasked with developing mixed-integer optimization models to guide site selection and the scale of technology adoption. A significant expectation of this role is to generate peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals and to assist in leading research efforts within the department. The university encourages applications from women, underrepresented groups, and individuals with disabilities.
