About the position

The Research Scientist 2 (Water Pollution) position at the New York State Civil Service involves conducting independent research projects focused on water quality and management within the Mohawk River Basin. The role requires analyzing data, preparing reports, and developing new methods to enhance the Bureau of Water Resource Management's initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders and provide recommendations to improve water quality and implement best management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research projects related to water quality and management.
  • Analyze data and prepare reports, papers, and publications.
  • Develop new methods and processes to contribute to the Division of Water's research program.
  • Evaluate methods for improving best management practices in the Mohawk Watershed.
  • Research and update the Mohawk River Basin Action Agenda and Progress Report.
  • Coordinate partnerships, contracts, and grants for research initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in environmental sciences, environmental policy, environmental management, biology, or a related field.
  • Three years of professional research experience in the appropriate field.
  • Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience; Ph.D. may substitute for an additional year.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with aquatic biological ecosystems.
