About the position

Meta is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Ads Ranking team within the Monetization organization to advance the state-of-the-art in AI. This role is pivotal in shipping breakthrough Ads ranking models and infrastructure that enable multiple products through a combination of fundamental research, new machine learning tools, and platforms designed for reuse. The ideal candidate will be a recognized expert in key research areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computational Statistics, and Applied Mathematics. Specific topics of interest include Deep Learning, Computer Perception, Optimization, Reinforcement Learning, Representation Learning, Privacy in Machine Learning, security of AI systems, foundations of generative modeling, compression and information theory, and the social implications of AI. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in producing new scientific insights to understand intelligence and technology, aiming to enhance the capabilities of computers. Equally important is the ability to translate new research findings into practical applications that meet product needs. The mission of the Ads Ranking team is to cultivate enduring business growth and amplify efficiency through the development of cutting-edge AI technology that addresses complex monetization challenges while aligning with Meta's core business objectives. As a Research Scientist, you will help advance the science and technology of intelligent machines, perform research that enables the understanding of data semantics across various modalities (images, video, text, audio, etc.), and define both short and medium-term objectives for the Monetization organization. You will also be responsible for producing and presenting publications that influence the progress of AI or Machine Learning in relevant research communities, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners, and contributing to Meta's research product development. Additionally, you will design policies, processes, procedures, methods, tests, and components from inception for end-to-end systems.

Responsibilities

  • Help advance the science and technology of intelligent machines.
  • Perform research that enables learning the semantics of data (images, video, text, audio, and other modalities).
  • Identify and define both short and medium term objectives for the Monetization org.
  • Produce and present publications that influence the progress of AI or Machine Learning in relevant research communities.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and contribute towards Meta's research product development.
  • Design policies, processes, procedures, methods, tests, and/or components, from inception for end-to-end systems.

Requirements

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Mathematics, Computational Statistics, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Research experience in Machine learning, Artificial intelligence, Deep learning, Computer Perception, Optimization, Reinforcement learning, Representation Learning, Privacy in Machine Learning, or related areas.
  • Experience with Python, C++, Java, or other related languages.
  • Experience in solving modeling problems using AI or Machine Learning methodologies.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, FacCT, CCS, IEEE S&P, or other similar venues.
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
  • Experience working with large scale ranking and recommendation systems.
