About the position

The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) is seeking a full-time, non-tenure research faculty member to conduct transportation safety research. This position is open to candidates at various ranks, including Assistant Research Scientist, Associate Research Scientist, and Research Scientist, depending on qualifications. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment focused on data analysis related to transportation safety and mobility, with an emphasis on crash data analysis and social behavioral aspects of roadway safety.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and perform experiments related to transportation safety.
• Analyze data and coordinate activities with faculty, research staff, and students.
• Write reports and journal articles, and present findings at conferences.
• Develop proposals to secure additional research funding.
• Engage with students, potentially supervising research assistants and participating in mentorship programs.
• Serve on UMTRI administrative committees, with greater service expected from senior faculty.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in any field and a Master's in a field associated with data analysis (e.g., Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science) or equivalent practical experience.
• Record of scholarly research and publications demonstrating potential for success in the field.

Nice-to-haves

• Demonstrated potential to develop successful proposals for research funding from government and/or industry sponsors.
• Experience conducting collaborative research, preferably with external sponsors.
• Research experience in transportation safety and/or public health.
• Experience conducting social behavioral human subject studies.
