About the position

The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenure research faculty position focused on transportation safety research. This role is open to candidates at various ranks, including Assistant Research Scientist, Associate Research Scientist, and Research Scientist, with the rank depending on qualifications. The position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, contributing to research that enhances transportation safety and mobility.

Responsibilities

• Conducting research and performing experiments related to transportation safety.
• Analyzing data and coordinating activities with faculty, research staff, and students.
• Writing reports and journal articles to disseminate research findings.
• Presenting research at conferences and writing proposals for additional funding.
• Supervising paid student research assistants and mentoring students in research programs.
• Participating in classroom teaching and serving on graduate committees.
• Engaging in professional organizations and serving on UMTRI administrative committees.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in any field and a Master's in a field associated with data analysis (e.g., Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science) or equivalent practical experience.
• A record of scholarly research and publications demonstrating potential for success in the field.

Nice-to-haves

• Demonstrated potential to develop successful proposals for research funding from government and/or industry sponsors.
• Experience conducting collaborative research, preferably with external sponsors.
• Research experience in transportation safety and/or public health.
• Experience conducting social behavioral human subject studies.
