About the position

The Research Scientist position at MD Anderson Cancer Center focuses on basic and translational cancer immunology research. The role involves leading research projects that utilize various techniques to explore tumor immune activation and suppression. The scientist will work under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, contributing to the development of new cancer therapies through experimental design, execution, and mentorship of junior lab members.

Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, analyze, and troubleshoot scientific experiments using molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and single-cell RNA-seq.
  • Utilize cell culture techniques including primary lymphocytes and immortalized cell lines, as well as transfection and transduction methods.
  • Employ microscopy, flow cytometry, CRISPR screening, and mouse tumor models in research.
  • Supervise and train laboratory personnel including technicians and students.
  • Present data at lab meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Read, evaluate, and summarize new publications and attend scientific meetings.
  • Assist in writing abstracts, manuscripts, and grants.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and reagents, ensuring accurate documentation of experimental work.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or a related field.
  • Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work (with a PhD, no experience is required; with a Medical degree, two years of experience is required).
  • Significant wet lab experience in cancer biology and/or immunology.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD or significant experience in cancer biology or immunology.
  • Experience with mouse tumor models, primary T cell culture, lentiviral production and transduction, and flow cytometry.
  • Proficiency in using Python or R for analyzing biological data.
