About the position

The Research Scientist at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing scientific research projects within the NeuroCare Program. This role involves collaborating with clinicians and basic scientists to identify research opportunities, managing translational and preclinical experiments, and mentoring laboratory personnel. The Research Scientist will also compile and submit project results, ensuring effective communication and coordination of scientific goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and oversee scientific research projects for the NeuroCare Program.
  • Identify research opportunities aligned with the mission of the NeuroCare Program.
  • Design and administrate experiments focused on imaging technologies applicable to cancer neuroscience and brain tumors.
  • Oversee patient derived tumor cell preservation and maintenance.
  • Conduct genetic, molecular, and cellular characterization of neural brain tumor tissue.
  • Perform immunohistochemistry and advanced microscopic imaging of tissue.
  • Oversee biologic validation of in vivo molecular and cellular imaging modalities.
  • Assist with patient logistics, scheduling, and regulatory affairs.
  • Monitor project progression, deliverables, and timelines in conjunction with the research team.
  • Coordinate research planning, monitoring, and reporting activities.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
  • Doctorate (Academic) preferred.
  • Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work, or no experience required with a PhD.
  • Two years of experience in experimental or scientific work with a Medical degree.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of related experience including research work at MDACC.
