About the position

The Center for Translational Medicine at the University of Montana in Missoula is seeking two Staff Scientists to join the collaborative lab of Drs. Blair DeBuysscher and Jay Evans. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative vaccines. The research focus encompasses a wide range of diseases that impact human health, including COVID-19, monkeypox, Lyme disease, influenza virus, tuberculosis, pertussis, and opioid addiction. The team also investigates the molecular intricacies of host-pathogen interactions, vaccine-mediated immunity, and their implications for immunopathology and immune-mediated protection. As a member of this dynamic team, you will engage in the design, execution, and analysis of laboratory experiments, with varying levels of independence based on your experience. The role requires strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate effective collaboration with managers, colleagues, and external partners. The Center for Translational Medicine is well-funded and has extensive connections within both academia and industry, creating an environment that fosters impactful discoveries. Candidates with a solid background in immunology, molecular biology, and/or cell biology laboratory techniques are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in animal handling and mouse models is highly desirable, along with experience in performing ELISAs, flow cytometry, and cell culture. Familiarity with molecular biology and/or bioinformatics is also considered a valuable asset. Responsibilities

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments with varying levels of independence based on experience.
  • Perform data management and analysis with minimum oversight.
  • Effectively communicate relevant scientific information to manager and colleagues.
  • Review scientific literature and recommend new technologies or ideas to colleagues or manager.
  • Coordinate efforts with technical and scientific staff to achieve project objectives and milestones.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate verbal or written summaries of results with interpretation for manager and/or project teams.
  • Present effectively at internal research group meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and greater than ten (10) years of applicable lab experience or Masters of Science and greater than five (5) years lab experience for Research Scientist role.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and accurate record keeping skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Perform complex data management and analysis with minimum oversight.
  • Technical expertise in one or more laboratory systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in performing ELISAs, flow cytometry, and cell culture.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology and/or bioinformatics.
  • Proficiency in animal handling and mouse models.
