About the position

Meta is seeking Research Scientists to join its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) organization, focusing on making significant advances in artificial intelligence. The ideal candidates will possess a strong background in vision-language models and general AI, and will be tasked with investigating how to build contextually aware AI systems. This role is pivotal in establishing a new paradigm for human-computer interaction. The selected candidates will collaborate with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners, gaining access to cutting-edge technology, resources, and research facilities. The responsibilities of the Research Scientist include developing algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies, defining and building new capabilities necessary for the next generation of AI, and working with large datasets. Additionally, the role involves conducting research to advance the science and technology of intelligent machines, setting long-term ambitious research goals while identifying intermediate milestones, and enabling learning the semantics of data across multiple modalities, including images, video, text, audio, and speech. Candidates must have a strong foundation in research, particularly in deep learning, computer vision, robotics, or AI infrastructure. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and experience with frameworks like PyTorch are essential. The ability to communicate research findings effectively to peers and the public is also a critical component of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning and neural network methodologies.
  • Define, build and benchmark new capabilities needed for the next generation of AI.
  • Work with and create large datasets.
  • Conduct research to advance the science and technology of intelligent machines.
  • Conduct research towards long-term ambitious research goals while identifying intermediate milestones.
  • Conduct research that enables learning the semantics of data across multiple modalities (images, video, text, audio, speech and other modalities).

Requirements

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Vision, Language, Machine Learning, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Research Experience in deep learning, computer vision, robotics, or AI infrastructure.
  • Experience with Python and PyTorch.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments.
  • Experience communicating research for public audiences of peers.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, or similar.
  • Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
