About the position

At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing wearable sensing technologies that will define the future of AI experiences. We are looking for a creative, skilled, and motivated Research Scientist to join our team in advancing the state-of-the-art of computer vision and multi-modal sensing with wearables, including action and gesture recognition, object detection and tracking. You will work with research scientists, software engineers, and hardware engineers to design wearable sensing systems in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment. The ideal candidate is a recognized expert in the field of computer vision and machine learning and has a track record in building user-facing, real-time, interactive applications. As a Research Scientist, you will implement state-of-the-art computer vision methods for wearable AI experiences, including gesture recognition, object detection, and scene understanding. You will plan and execute research that advances the state-of-the-art and improves our wearable sensing systems. Collaboration is key, as you will work across an interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to optimize solutions at the systems level, which includes sensor hardware, data collections, training, evaluation, and real-time inference. Additionally, you will design and implement multi-modal models that combine cameras with other sensors, including IMUs and neural interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Implement state-of-the-art computer vision methods for wearable AI experiences, including gesture recognition, object detection, and scene understanding.
  • Plan and execute research that advances the state-of-the-art and improves our wearable sensing systems.
  • Collaborate across an interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers to optimize solutions at the systems level (sensor hardware, data collections, training, evaluation, real-time inference).
  • Design and implement multi-modal models that combine cameras with other sensors, including IMUs and neural interfaces.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • PhD degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in researching and developing Computer Vision algorithms and systems in academia or industrial setting.
  • 5+ years of experience writing software (Python and C/C++) and executing complex Machine Learning experiments.
  • 3+ years of experience working with Deep Learning.
  • Experience working and communicating in a cross-functional, diverse team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Human Computer Interaction and interactive applications of Computer Vision and Machine Learning.
  • Experience with low-level image and signal processing.
  • Experience with joint hardware-software development and rapid prototyping of camera and sensors hardware.
  • Experience designing data collection protocols and constructing high quality Computer Vision and Machine Learning datasets.
  • Experience transferring technology from research in Computer Vision, Machine Perception or Machine Learning into a shipping product.
  • Track record of significant scientific results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at top-tier conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, SIGGRAPH, NeurIPS, ICLR, ACL or similar.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from $143,000 to $208,000 a year, plus bonus and equity.
  • Comprehensive health insurance coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with company matching.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continued education.
