About the position

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Research Scientist to join the Department of Internal Medicine, Office of Academic Research Services. This position is pivotal in identifying and defining funding opportunities to support existing and planned program activities, investigators, and trainees. The Research Scientist will coordinate the development, review, writing, and submission of both intramural and extramural proposals for the Department of Internal Medicine (DOIM) Academic Research Services (ARS) office. In this role, the Research Scientist will assist in writing well-crafted and timely grant proposals submitted by faculty and trainees. This includes preparing ancillary documents related to complete proposal submissions, such as NIH bio sketches, institutional support documents, letters of intent, and support letters. The individual will also coordinate proposal writing support with staff and grant office personnel, and assist in developing templates that facilitate the proposal and submission process, including institutional support letters, animal protocols, and data management plans. The Research Scientist will work closely with ARS staff to ensure that DOIM research webpages are kept up to date and will track data pertaining to the proposal submission process to document outcomes and for quality improvement purposes. Additionally, the individual will assist in the review and submission of manuscripts and other miscellaneous documents, research and identify new funding opportunities, and match investigators with these opportunities to encourage timely submissions. Training faculty and staff in research methodology, proposal writing, and the proposal submission processes will also be part of the responsibilities. The Research Scientist will engage in continuing education to improve proposal writing skills and stay updated with new guidelines from funding agencies such as the National Institutes of Health. Furthermore, the Research Scientist will assist with new research faculty orientation, be familiar with the overall research focus of all research faculty, and identify areas of collaboration. The individual will also assist the research director and ARS team in maintaining and reporting metrics, improving workflows, and submitting reports to departments, funders, and other sources. Acting as a liaison with research faculty, trainees, staff, university departments, ancillary departments, and/or satellite facilities will be essential, providing meaningful feedback and guidance as needed. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in new research faculty orientation.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • PhD and/or MD required.
  • Successful proposal writing experience.
  • Experience with NIH and Foundation grant proposals.
  • Working knowledge of basic and medical sciences.
  • Familiarity with specialized software programs pertinent to proposal writing.
