About the position

Apex Microdevices is seeking a Research Scientist specializing in device micro-/nanofabrication to support the Air Force Research Laboratory's Agile Electronic Materials and Processes Research Team. This role involves research and development of advanced electronic, photonic, and quantum materials, utilizing a state-of-the-art cleanroom facility. The position is focused on developing and assessing fabrication processes for micro- and nano-electronic devices, contributing to the Air Force's mission of advancing electronic materials readiness.

Responsibilities

• Develop, utilize, and assess fabrication processes for micro- and nano-electronic devices in a cleanroom facility.
• Drive innovation in microfabrication process development and stay updated on industry innovations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Research, learn, and devise new experimental techniques or technical concepts.
• Support multiple research projects concurrently.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Entry level or 0-3 years of professional research experience post BS or MS.
• Excellent teamwork and technical communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience working in a cleanroom environment and process development for microfabrication of electronic devices.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in lithography techniques (Contact, E-beam, and Direct write).
• Experience in thin film growth techniques such as sputtering, e-beam evaporation, ALD, and PECVD.
• Experience in plasma processing methods (RIE, ICP-RIE) for dry etching of materials.
• Characterization of nanostructures using advanced metrology tools like SEM.
• Experience in characterization of magnetic materials or wide bandgap semiconductors.
