About the position

The Research Scientist at Nationwide Children's Hospital will collaborate closely with the Clinical Laboratory Directors of the Steve and Cindy Rasmussen Institute for Genomic Medicine. The successful candidate will engage in computational and statistical analysis, as well as scientific writing to communicate results effectively. In a collaborative team science environment, the Research Scientist will be responsible for preparing various technical materials, including abstracts, summary reports, scientific papers, and presentations. A strong emphasis is placed on the ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals, showcasing the candidate's expertise and contributions to the field. The position requires a deep understanding of laboratory techniques, procedures, and protocols, which the Research Scientist must maintain and demonstrate. Responsibilities include collecting, managing, and analyzing data for clinical and translational projects, particularly in germline and somatic settings. The candidate will apply appropriate statistical procedures to analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports, including graphs, images, and tables that summarize study results. Proficiency in computational skills is essential, with the expectation to utilize tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, reference managers, and statistical programs. Additionally, the Research Scientist will prepare protocols for research that is regulated by an institutional review board, ensuring compliance with ethical standards. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Clinical Laboratory Directors to design experiments related to genomic medicine.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data for clinical and translational projects.
  • Analyze data using appropriate statistical procedures and prepare reports with related graphs, images, and tables.
  • Demonstrate competency in computational skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical programs.
  • Prepare technical materials such as summary reports, scientific manuscripts, and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare protocols for research regulated by an institutional review board.
  • Prepare scientific abstracts and presentations.

Requirements

  • PhD in genetics, molecular biology, or a related discipline, or a Master of Science in genetics, molecular biology, or a related discipline with 1-2 years of experience in genomic analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to critically read and interpret data from scientific publications.
  • Strong scientific writing skills with demonstrated experience in peer-reviewed publication.
  • Ability to use research methods for generating, collecting, and analyzing data for report preparation.
  • Knowledge of guidelines and regulations surrounding human subjects research.
  • Experience working with clinical genomic data, including next-generation sequencing data.
  • Familiarity with genomic databases, genomic browsers, and professional guidelines in genetics.
  • Understanding of the operation of a clinical laboratory is preferred.
  • Skill at collaboration in a team science setting.
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision and adhere to deadlines.
