About the position

The Research Scientist III (Social Behavioral Sciences) position at the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) involves applying theoretical models and statistical methods to conduct complex scientific research studies aimed at improving health outcomes for Medi-Cal populations. This role includes leading advanced research and statistical analysis, creating new population datasets, and supporting health management services for high-risk patients. Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct scientific research studies of high complexity.
  • Apply statistical and research methods to support Medi-Cal Population Health Management services.
  • Act as a resource and team lead for advanced research and statistical analysis.
  • Conduct deterministic and probabilistic data linkage to improve health outcomes.
  • Create new population datasets through data linkage procedures.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics).
  • 2 years of experience in analytics or related fields.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, SQL).
  • Strong skills in statistical analysis, including regression analysis and survival analysis.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Teradata and healthcare administrative data/services.
  • Interest in population health issues and analytics.
  • Experience with data linkage procedures.
