About the position

As a Research Scientist in the Multimodal Graduate (Applied Machine Learning) program at ByteDance, you will be at the forefront of innovation in artificial intelligence. Your primary focus will be on designing and deploying state-of-the-art models that can be applied across various downstream applications. This role requires a collaborative spirit, as you will work closely with software engineers to build enterprise-level platforms that leverage cutting-edge models. The ByteDance Doubao Team, which you will be a part of, was founded in 2023 and is dedicated to crafting the industry's most advanced large language models (LLMs). With a commitment to both technological and social progress, the team conducts research in diverse areas such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision (CV), and speech recognition and generation. The team boasts a robust international presence, with research facilities in China, Singapore, and the US, and has developed a proprietary general-purpose model with multimodal capabilities that supports over 50 downstream business services. Responsibilities

  • Design and deploy state-of-the-art models in various downstream applications
  • Collaborate with software engineers to build enterprise-level platforms with cutting-edge models
  • Collaborate with open-source communities or academia to advance AI development

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent industrial research experience
  • Research or technical backgrounds in NLP, CV, video understanding, large pretrained models, or participation in large-scale online machine learning platforms
  • Experience with pre-training foundation technologies, including efficient training and pretraining as a service, downstream applications of NLP/CV/Video
  • Publication of top-tier conference papers, including NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ACL, OSDI, NSDI, SC and SigMOD, relevant internship experience or winners of ACM competitions
  • Proficient in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow, and programming languages such as Python or Java

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large-scale online machine learning platforms
  • Familiarity with efficient training and pretraining as a service
  • Participation in large-scale AI competitions or hackathons
