We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Scientist I to join our dynamic in vitro pharmacology team in San Diego dedicated to advancing gene therapy and siRNA for neurological and neuromuscular diseases. As a key member of our research team, you will play a critical role in supporting various aspects of research including tissue sample processing, biodistribution, biomarker assay development, antibody screening campaigns, as well as overseeing lab operation activities. Responsibilities

  • Cross-program molecular biology support, including biodistribution studies, quality control work to validate reagents, vectors, and construct design.
  • Conduct tissue sample processing techniques for DNA, RNA, and protein isolation for downstream analysis.
  • Execute gene expression analysis utilizing techniques such as RT-/ddPCR ELISA assays, RNAseq library preparation, and additional molecular biology work as assigned.
  • Support in vitro bioassays development in engineered cell lines, and disease-relevant in vitro systems.
  • Provide administrative and operational support for the In Vitro Pharmacology team, including procurement, online database maintenance, and lab management activities.
  • Plan, execute, and analyze experiments under supervision while maintaining contemporaneous and detailed documentation of results.
  • Manage interactions with vendors.
  • Help to maintain and ensure a safe laboratory environment and good laboratory practices.
  • Collaborate across a dynamic and cross-functional scientific environment.

Requirements

  • B.S. in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or related scientific discipline and 0+ years experience.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques, including cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR.
  • Experience with basic protein assay methods, including Western blot and ELISA.
  • Experience with basic cell biology techniques, including aseptic cell culture, cell counting, cell banking.
  • Experience in gene therapy and biodistribution methods a plus.
  • Adept at learning new techniques quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills and work ethics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in gene therapy research, particularly in neurological and neuromuscular diseases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and growing team environment and to prioritize work from multiple projects.
  • Must be highly reliable and goal/deadline oriented.
  • Hands-on experience with automation and high-throughput screening platforms, a plus.
