About the position

The Research Scientist Intern position at Meta Reality Labs focuses on advancing machine perception and 3D scene understanding for augmented and virtual reality applications. Interns will engage in cutting-edge research to develop novel techniques in computer vision and machine learning, contributing to the creation of digital twins and egocentric machine perception functionalities. This role involves collaboration with a world-class team to innovate and prototype systems that enhance AR and VR experiences.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute cutting-edge research and development in machine perception, state estimation, and 3D object and scene reconstruction.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to develop experiments, prototypes, and concepts for AR/VR and AI systems.
• Design, setup, and run practical experiments and prototype systems related to large-scale high-quality sensing and machine reasoning.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or has obtained a PhD in computer vision, computer graphics, 3D machine perception, or machine learning.
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with 3D and projective geometry, and image-space computer vision.
• Experience implementing 3D computer vision algorithms and training ML models from data collection to evaluation.
• Proficiency in Python, particularly with PyTorch.
• Experience working in a Unix environment.
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• Proven track record of significant results through grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications at leading conferences.
• Strong background in neural reconstruction, inverse rendering, and generative modeling.
• Demonstrated software engineering experience through internships or contributions to open source projects.
• Intent to return to a degree program after the internship.
• Experience in cross-functional team communication.
