About the position

Meta is seeking Research Interns to join the Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team, focusing on advancing artificial intelligence technologies. Interns will engage in state-of-the-art research in machine learning systems, contributing to innovations in scalable AI systems and collaborating with cross-functional teams. This internship offers a unique opportunity to make significant algorithmic advances and apply research at a large scale within a fast-growing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Perform state of the art research to advance the science and technology of machine learning systems.
  • Conduct research that enables learning the semantics of various data modalities including images, video, text, and audio.
  • Devise improved data-driven models for AI system design and optimization.
  • Contribute to innovations in scalable machine learning systems and resource-efficient AI designs.
  • Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners, communicating research plans and results.
  • Publish research findings and contribute to impactful research for Meta's product development.

Requirements

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Machine Learning, Systems, Artificial Intelligence, or a relevant technical field.
  • Research experience in systems, computer architectures, compiler and programming languages, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, C, Lua, and familiarity with the PyTorch framework.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intent to return to the degree program after the internship/co-op.
  • Proven track record of significant results demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, or first-authored publications at leading conferences.
  • Experience in developing and optimizing systems for at-scale machine learning execution.
  • Experience with real-system implementations and AI system optimization.
  • Experience with large machine learning model training and inference acceleration for distributed systems.
  • Experience with scalable machine learning systems and environmentally-sustainable AI designs.
  • Ability to analyze complex, large-scale data from various sources.
  • Demonstrated software engineering experience through internships or contributions to open source repositories.
