About the position

As a MEMS Research Scientist Intern at Meta Reality Labs, you will play a pivotal role in the development of next-generation AR and VR systems. This position involves exploring new MEMS concepts through design and potentially experimental testing, utilizing a combination of electrical, mechanical, optical, and software techniques. The role emphasizes collaboration within a team to brainstorm innovative ideas and mature designs, ultimately contributing to the advancement of AR and VR technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop next generation AR/VR displays with an emphasis on advanced simulations and prototyping to prove new concepts and understand the perceptual impact of those concepts.
  • Collaborate with the larger Meta Reality Labs Research team to explore novel solution space for AR/VR devices.
  • Explore the application of MEMS device design & piezoelectric/electrostatic actuation.
  • Develop MEMS architectures for AR/VR applications and support device development pipeline for MEMS devices.
  • Translate MEMS device concepts into foundry-ready layout for tape-out.
  • Emphasize advanced device design to prove new concepts and the perceptual impact of those concepts, with potential for experimental demonstration.
  • Collaborate with researchers and cross-functional partners including communicating research plans, progress, and results.
  • Publish research results and contribute to research that can be applied to Meta product development.

Requirements

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or equivalent, with expertise in MEMS design, layout, and testing.
  • Must obtain work authorization in a country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • 2+ years experience in multi-physics modeling FEA modeling tools such as COMSOL or ANSYS.
  • Experience with resonant MEMS devices, MEMS tape outs and foundry fabrication processes, MEMS systems analysis for device integration.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in piezoelectric and electrostatic MEMS systems, mechanical and electrical MEMS characterization, MEMS packaging.
  • Prior exposure to consumer electronics product development and/or manufacturing.
  • Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading journals and conferences.

Benefits

  • $7,313/month to $11,333/month + benefits
