About the position

The Research Scientist in Legal Innovation at Stanford Law School will execute and administer research activities focused on AI and legal technology developments. This role involves training classifiers, designing AI platforms, and overseeing research assistants. The position also includes writing and editing various work products, assisting in grant development, and representing the lab in communications and outreach activities.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and administer research activities on AI and legal technology developments.
  • Train classifiers and design AI platform architecture.
  • Oversee and support training of research assistants and student fellows.
  • Write and edit content for peer-reviewed articles, white papers, and project proposals.
  • Assist in the development of research grants and summarize data for grant support.
  • Represent the Lab as a key contact and subject matter expert.
  • Organize and participate in outreach activities such as events and conferences.
  • Assist in teaching and administration of courses at the intersection of AI & Law.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and analytical skills in the area of specialization.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles and related fields such as linguistics and data science.
  • Experience in machine learning, deep learning, and AI.
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering principles and proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python or R).
  • Ability to collect and analyze data using various methods.

  • Interest in causal inference and social sciences, particularly law.
