About the position

The Research Scientist Manager, AI at Meta is a pivotal role focused on leading a team to develop cutting-edge AI technologies for wearable devices. This position involves building the core AI technology that powers Meta's Smart Glasses, AR Glasses, Quest devices, and other AI-centric wearables. The manager will oversee research and engineering efforts to create state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs) optimized for natural voice interaction, delivering personalized AI experiences. The role requires a strong technical leader with expertise in speech understanding and natural language processing (NLP).

Responsibilities

  • Support and grow a team of AI, Speech and NLP experts
  • Develop technical vision, long-term strategy and set direction for the team and the organization
  • Drive execution of developing models and systems that are crucial to the end user experience
  • Present the team's work and plans in cross-company executive forums as well as to the scientific community
  • Communicate, collaborate, and build relationships with clients and peer teams to facilitate cross-functional projects

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in large language model, Speech, NLP, and/or multimodal modeling, in the setting of both research and engineering development
  • 2+ years of hands-on supporting and leading teams of software engineers and research scientists
  • Experience in developing large-scale AI services
  • Experience with cross functional collaboration with product and platform teams, as well as non-engineering functions
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, building, structuring, leading technical organizations, including performance management

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in deep learning, artificial intelligence, and/or related technical field
  • Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research
  • Hands-on knowledge of training and fine-tuning LLMs
  • Experience and knowledge of ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge of multi-modal modeling and computer vision
  • First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL)
