About the position

The Wearables AI Org at Meta is seeking a strong technical leader to join our team and work on the next generation of AI Experiences on wearable devices. As a technical leader in the team, you will play a critical role in building the core AI tech powering the experiences on Meta's Smart Glasses, AR Glasses, Quest devices, and AI-centric wearables. We have the opportunity to build the next computing platform powered by the latest and greatest AI technologies. We conduct research and engineering to build state-of-the-art LLMs to support on-device and on-server use cases, optimize them for natural voice interaction, and deliver knowledge-grounded, actionable, personalized AI. We are looking for a strong AI Research Manager who has a background in speech understanding or NLP, with experience in areas like conversational AI; speech and audio processing; sentiment analysis; component and end-to-end evaluation; data processing for pre-training and fine-tuning; responsible AI & LLM alignment; reinforcement learning for language model tuning; efficient training and inference; and/or multilingual and multimodal modeling. Last year we launched the AI Assistant on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, and we are working on making it a truly human-like Assistant that can see what you see and hear what you hear, helping users get things done in the most ubiquitous way.

Responsibilities

  • Support and grow a team of AI, Speech and NLP experts
  • Develop technical vision, long-term strategy and set direction for the team and the organization
  • Drive execution of developing models and systems that are crucial to the end user experience
  • Present the team's work and plans in cross-company executive forums as well as to the scientific community
  • Communicate, collaborate, and build relationships with clients and peer teams to facilitate cross-functional projects

Requirements

  • Experience and track of record in landing large product impacts in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in large language model, Speech, NLP, and/or multimodal modeling, in the setting of both research and engineering development
  • 2+ years of hands-on supporting and leading teams of software engineers and research scientists
  • Experience in developing large-scale AI services
  • Experience with cross functional collaboration with product and platform teams, as well as non-engineering functions
  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, building, structuring, leading technical organizations, including performance management

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in deep learning, artificial intelligence, and/or related technical field
  • Direct experience in generative AI and LLM research
  • Hands-on knowledge of training and fine-tuning LLMs
  • Experience and knowledge of ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge of multi-modal modeling and computer vision
  • First author publications experience at peer-reviewed AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, CVPR, ICML, ICLR, ICCV, and ACL)
