About the position

DeVine Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Research Scientist specializing in Numerical & Trajectory Prediction within the field of Mechanical Engineering. This full-time position is based in Monterey, California, and is specifically aimed at supporting a government client. The role is critical as it involves aiding research on the depth of burial of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in estuary environments, which is essential for both safety and environmental considerations. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development by integrating underwater UXO impact burial prediction into educational frameworks. The Research Scientist will be responsible for producing an Interactive Data Process and Display Package that will facilitate the analysis of underwater hydrographic and sediment data. This includes developing software to access various types of ocean data and creating a visualization package for profiling and gridded data display. Additionally, the role requires providing statistical analysis tools to interpret seabed sediment data and installing and updating the underwater rigid-body trajectory model known as STRIKE35. The candidate will analyze underwater projectile trajectory data, collect relevant data, and determine parameters for the underwater projectile model, ultimately developing a projectile penetration model. Furthermore, the role involves creating an input link from seabed sediment data for the penetration model and providing a software package for the rigid-body penetration model. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about oceanographic research and have a strong background in mechanical engineering or related fields. Candidates must be U.S. citizens due to the nature of the work and the client involved.
