About the position

The Research Scientist in Process Development at Gilead Sciences will be a key member of the Process Chemistry group within the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing organization. This role focuses on developing chemical processes for the manufacture of drug substances, contributing to the creation of innovative therapies that address significant health challenges. The position emphasizes collaboration, scientific creativity, and the application of state-of-the-art techniques to enhance drug development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop chemical processes for the manufacture of drug substances.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency and scientific creativity in experimental design and strategy.
  • Propose alternative chemistry including new route selection and step optimization.
  • Collaborate with senior scientists to advance economical and sustainable techniques for substance production.
  • Analyze complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity.
  • Advise project teams on laboratory experimentation considering economic, sustainability, regulatory, and safety factors.
  • Contribute to scientific literature and conferences through publication and presentation of research results.
  • Maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories relevant to the role.

Requirements

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry or related discipline, or MS with 9+ years of relevant experience, or BS with 11+ years of experience.
  • Experience in planning and executing multi-step synthetic sequences.
  • Familiarity with modern purification and analytical techniques, including HPLC, LCMS, and NMR.
  • Proficiency in scientific literature searching software (e.g., SciFinder, Reaxys).
  • Strong desire to work in multi-disciplinary teams and proactively solve problems.
