About the position

The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is seeking a Research Scientist for the Department of Pharmacy Practice, specifically in Dr. Paola Rosas' laboratory. This role focuses on understanding the relationship between heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and metabolic disorders, particularly in postmenopausal women. The scientist will engage in cutting-edge research supported by NIH and AHA funding, utilizing various murine models and both non-invasive and invasive techniques to evaluate cardiac function and metabolism.

Responsibilities

  • Assure efficient and effective laboratory operations, availability of required resources, and proper prioritization of projects.
  • Work within interdisciplinary research teams to design assays to support translational research.
  • Plan, design and perform experiments.
  • Monitor research project development on an ongoing basis and propose changes as needed.
  • Perform literature searches on given topics and keep current with scientific literature.
  • Prepare manuscripts, present research papers at scientific conferences, and write scholarly articles for publication.
  • Identify research opportunities and prepare grant applications to obtain extramural research funding.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. Degree with training in biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral research experience.
  • Experience in cardiac physiology and/or metabolism is required.
  • Excellent technical and troubleshooting abilities to ensure critical laboratory equipment performance and assay integrity.
  • Knowledge of lab techniques such as echocardiography, pressure-volume measurements, skinned fiber measurements, metabolic phenotyping, and biochemistry studies.
  • Good organizational skills and demonstrated excellent attention to details.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software, Prism, ImageLab, and PubMed.
  • Ability to communicate and participate effectively in team settings.
