The Sheehan lab at Emory University is a translational research lab dedicated to developing innovative therapies for individuals suffering from sickle cell disease. We are currently seeking a Research Scientist who will play a crucial role in conducting experiments using a humanized mouse model to analyze the effects of base editing and other gene therapies on red blood cells and other blood cell types. The ideal candidate will have experience working with complex and fragile mouse models, as well as proficiency in cell culture techniques. This position involves performing a variety of defined research and laboratory tests according to established protocols and schedules, all under general supervision. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the principal investigator to design experiments and will be responsible for maintaining detailed records of their work in laboratory notebooks and computer databases. Additionally, the candidate will conduct simple statistical analyses with guidance and compile data for publications, grant applications, and seminar presentations. Handling human blood samples is a requirement for this position, and proof of immunization will be necessary, with the possibility of additional immunizations as needed.
