About the position
The Research Scientist position at Emory University's School of Medicine focuses on translational research aimed at developing new therapies for individuals with sickle cell disease. The role involves conducting experiments, developing assays, and collaborating with biomedical investigators and medicinal chemists to advance research in this critical area.
Responsibilities
- Develop biochemical and cell-based assays for high throughput screening of small molecule libraries.
- Execute lower throughput biochemical or cell-based assays for structural optimization of hit compounds.
- Perform experiments in a sickle mouse model and analyze changes in red cells and other blood cells due to treatments.
- Conduct in vitro cell culture experiments as needed.
- Maintain records, files, and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
- Compile data and perform simple statistical analyses with guidance for publications, grants, and seminar presentations.
- Communicate effectively with biomedical investigators and medicinal chemists.
- May supervise staff and perform related responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Strong technical background in laboratory research and experimentation.
