About the position

As a Research Scientist at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence (AI2), you will play a pivotal role in contributing to our mission of high-impact research in artificial intelligence. This position is situated in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment where you will conduct high-impact research, lead various research projects, and author scientific papers for publication in prestigious computing conferences and journals. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from a diverse team of scientists and engineers across AI2, fostering an environment of shared knowledge and innovation. In addition to your research responsibilities, you will also mentor early-career researchers and interns, guiding them on their projects and helping to cultivate the next generation of AI researchers. Your work will involve implementing and open-sourcing software to enhance access to our research findings, thereby contributing to the broader scientific community. Furthermore, you will develop collaborative relationships with relevant academic, industrial, government, and standards organizations, ensuring that AI2 remains at the forefront of AI research and application. This role requires a PhD in Computer Science or a related field, ideally with a focus on one or more of our active research areas. You should have a strong publication record in AI-related fields, with experience in high-profile venues such as ACL, CHI, ICLR, EMNLP, SIGIR, KDD, WWW, CVPR, NeurIPS, and ICML. Contributions to research communities, such as organizing workshops or tutorials, will be viewed favorably. Strong software engineering skills are essential, particularly experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow, and contributions to open-source research libraries such as AllenNLP or spaCy are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-impact research and lead research projects.
  • Author scientific papers for publication in high-profile computing conferences and journals.
  • Collaborate with and learn from team members across AI2, including scientists and engineers.
  • Mentor early-career researchers and interns on their projects.
  • Implement and open source software to improve access to our research.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science or related field, or one year or less from completing your PhD.
  • Strong publication record in AI-related areas, with experience in venues like ACL, CHI, ICLR, EMNLP, SIGIR, KDD, WWW, CVPR, NeurIPS, and ICML.
  • Strong software engineering skills, particularly with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Contributions to open-source research libraries (e.g., AllenNLP, spaCy) are a plus.
