About the position

The Research Scientist Temp will join T1D Exchange Inc. to cover a maternity leave beginning in September until December, with the possibility of extending longer. This position can be performed remotely as long as the candidate resides in the United States, while the headquarters is located in Boston, MA. The role involves close collaboration with the Outcomes Research and Registry teams, sponsors, and internal stakeholders to design and implement studies for observational research, as well as to help maintain best practices for research studies. Most of the projects are developed in partnership with external sponsors. The Research Scientist will be responsible for developing and presenting research plans to both internal and external stakeholders. This includes the preparation of study documents such as study protocols, executing studies through qualitative and quantitative data collection, and creating reports and presentations (e.g., abstracts, manuscripts, scientific posters) to summarize research findings. The position requires a comprehensive approach to research, from hypothesis generation to manuscript submission, and may involve qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method approaches. Additionally, the Research Scientist will perform background research, including literature reviews, internal data mining, and discussions with key opinion leaders (KOLs) as needed. They will draft, edit, and present study reports for scientific meetings and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Maintaining a working knowledge of recent best practices in patient research and adhering to federal and state regulations is crucial. The role also involves cultivating and enhancing collaborative relationships with internal and external researchers, sponsors, and research institutions, while performing other duties as assigned, such as data cleaning and interpretation of results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop required content to successfully achieve research objectives from hypothesis generation to manuscript submission.
  • Conduct background research such as literature reviews, internal data mining, and KOL discussions as needed.
  • Draft, edit, and present study reports for presentations at scientific meetings and in manuscript-ready formats for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Maintain working knowledge of recent best practices of patient research and federal and state regulations.
  • Cultivate, support, and enhance collaborative relationships with internal and external researchers, sponsors, and research institutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including data cleaning and interpretation of results.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree or higher in healthcare and outcomes research fields, such as public health, health economics, epidemiology, psychology, sociology, or other social sciences.
  • 3 years of work experience in a similar role; less experience will be considered in conjunction with a higher degree.
  • Experience with driving the full cycle of a research project, including literature review, protocol development, data collection, reporting results, and scientific dissemination.
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research designs, including conducting interviews and focus groups, survey development from patient and caregiver perspective.
  • Proficient in summarizing results and conclusions for scientific presentations/manuscripts with the ability to translate and present complex analyses into key points for presentation for a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of regulations and regulatory process required to conduct human subject research.
  • Competent handling confidential information and familiarity with privacy/HIPAA requirements.
  • Experience with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) submission process and documentation.
  • Excellent problem solving and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, researchers, physicians, and other professionals.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accurate results; works with passion, integrity, and energy.
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and research in diabetes preferred.
  • Publications in patient-centered research.
  • Experience working with clients (e.g., pharmaceutical companies, other researchers, etc.).
  • Knowledge of data mining and programming languages (such as R or Python).
