About the position

The E-commerce Recommendation Team at TikTok is dedicated to building and scaling a robust recommendation system that enhances the shopping experience for users. As a Research Scientist in this team, you will engage in cutting-edge research focused on machine learning algorithms, particularly in the areas of retrieval and recommendation. Your work will involve developing large-scale e-commerce recommendation algorithms and systems that cater to various aspects of TikTok, including commodity recommendations, live stream recommendations, and short video recommendations. In this role, you will be responsible for constructing both long and short-term user interest models. This involves analyzing and extracting relevant information from vast datasets to design algorithms that efficiently explore users' latent interests. You will also apply machine learning algorithms to improve various business scenarios, such as search ranking, natural language processing, video understanding, and trust and safety measures. The position requires a strong foundation in machine learning and a passion for solving complex problems, making it an exciting opportunity for those looking to make a significant impact in the e-commerce space on a global platform.

Responsibilities

• Conduct cutting-edge research in machine learning algorithms, such as retrieval and recommendation algorithms.
• Participate in building large-scale (10 million to 100 million) e-commerce recommendation algorithms and systems, including commodity recommendations, live stream recommendations, and short video recommendations.
• Build long and short term user interest models, analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of various data, and design algorithms to explore users' latent interests efficiently.
• Apply machine learning algorithms to improve different business scenarios, such as search ranking, natural language and video understanding, and trust and safety.

Requirements

• PhD in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent industrial research experience.
• At least 1 year of working experience in recommendation systems, online advertising, information retrieval, natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning, large-scale data mining, or related fields.
• Familiarity with at least one of the mainstream deep learning frameworks, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Passionate about solving complex and challenging problems.

Nice-to-haves

• Publications at KDD, NeurIPS, WWW, SIGIR, WSDM, ICML, IJCAI, AAAI, RECSYS and related conferences/journals.
• Experience in data mining/machine learning competitions such as Kaggle/KDD-cup.
