About the position

The Research Scientist in Translational Molecular Pathology at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for conducting a variety of molecular and cell biology studies to advance cancer research. This role involves designing experiments, developing protocols, and collaborating with other researchers to achieve scientific objectives. The position requires a strong background in laboratory techniques and a commitment to continuous learning in the field of cancer research.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of molecular and cell biology studies, including cloning, subcloning, immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, western blotting, digital PCR, and real-time PCR.
  • Develop and refine experimental protocols to improve research techniques.
  • Design projects and experiments by formulating research objectives, developing hypotheses, selecting appropriate methodologies, and establishing clear timelines.
  • Ensure coordination of animal maintenance and handling procedures with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery.
  • Operate and maintain scientific equipment, such as spectrophotometers, fraction collectors, chromatography systems, centrifuges, incubators, homogenizers, and microscopes.
  • Stay current with the latest research developments by reviewing scientific literature and engaging with researchers and biotechnology companies.
  • Prepare and present clear reports, visualizations, and summaries of findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work closely with other lab members to conduct research activities and actively participate in grant writing and applications with the research team.
  • Collaborate with co-investigators to ensure alignment with the short- and long-term objectives of the pancreatic cancer group.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
  • Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
  • With a PhD, no experience is required.
  • With a Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
